Guitar Upper Neck Notes (Frets 9-12)

Approaching the Octave

Frets 9 to 12 take you up to the "double dots" (the 12th fret octave). The frets get narrower here, making wide stretches easier and enabling faster playing.

The 12th Fret Reset

Remember: The 12th fret is just the open strings repeated (one octave higher). If you get lost this high up, just look at the 12th fret marker and imagine it as the nut of the guitar. Everything restarts there!
